Announcing open auditions for Hadestown Teen Edition at FAPA!
Auditions are being held for all roles on August 6th from6pm-9pm
Potential Callbacks are scheduled for Friday, August 8th from 6-7:30pm.
Following two intertwining love stories – that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of immortal King Hades and Lady Persephone – Hadestown invites audiences on a hell-raising journey to the underworld and back. Inspired by traditions of classic American folk music and vintage New Orleans jazz, Hadestown’s beguiling sung-through musical pits industry against nature, doubt against faith, and fear against love.
Please read the following information carefully:
- Auditions are open to actors in 9th-12th grades.
- Rehearsals will be held on Tuesday evenings from 7-9pm beginning August 12th (We follow Forsyth County Schools’ calendar for breaks like Fall Break, Thanksgiving, etc, and no rehearsals will meet on those dates.)
- Performances will be March 13th and 14th in the Mainstage Theater at FAPA.
- There is one additional technical rehearsal on Saturday, March 7th beginning at 10am.
- Tuition is $122/month for August through February (there is no March tuition payment) There are no additional production fees for this show.
- THIS IS AN AUDITION-ONLY PRODUCTION. Unfortunately not all students who audition will be cast.
- There is no fee to audition
For your audition:
-Please be familiar with THESE SCENES. They do not need to be memorized, but you should be familiar enough to be expressive during your audition.
-Please come prepared to dance…you will be taught a short combination.
-Plan to stay for the full hour of your audition time slot.
-Please come with a 16 to 32 bar audition cut (30-75 seconds) of a musical theatre song either written by the composer of Hadestown, Anais Mitchell (but not from Hadestown) OR a musical theater or non-musical theater song in the style of the Hadestown. The idea is to pick a song from a different musical that fits the style of the character you are most interested in. However, if you don’t have a character/characters you are specifically interested in, or you can’t find an appropriate song that fits your voice well, that’s okay! Sing something that is vocally comfortable, enjoyable to sing, and shows off the best parts of your voice! An audition is all about making a great impression and showing off your strengths in a short presentation, and the best way to do so is with something you can have fun, be yourself, and show some character with!
If you are needed for a callback, you will be contacted no later than 5pm on August 7th. Please note: not all students will be called back and just because you don’t receive a callback does NOT mean you will not be cast!
The cast list will be released by 10pm on August 10th with the first cast rehearsal on August 12th.
Director: Chelsea Wooten
Choreographer: Becky Binion
Music Director: Slade Searcy
Tips on music for your audition:
Come with your accompaniment track pre-saved (all instrumental, no voices on the track). We have found the best way to do this is:
- Find the track on YouTube (or whichever medium you are able to obtain the track from).
- Screen record the cut of the song you will be singing onto a personal device (smartphone, tablet, etc). This way you won’t have to fiddle through YouTube, find the starting point in the track, and hope the internet holds up in your audition.
- On audition day, come with the personal device and personal bluetooth speaker already hooked up to each other, so that you can come in for the audition, slate, and be ready to sing with minimal hassle and worry!
